Every upheaval in the body is due to some minor to major changes occurring in the body. This difficulty in the joints can be due to a hidden foe called rheumatoid arthritis.
What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Rheumatoid Arthritis is one of the inflammatory disorders that mainly affect the musculoskeletal system, in which the body accidentally attacks its healthy tissues and causes symptoms like swelling, stiffness, and pain in multiple joints. It often affects the lining tissues of joints, and can even lead to bone disintegration and joint deformity. Although small joints in the wrist and hands are targeted, they can affect different ones, mostly in a symmetrical fashion. And to add with, the impacts of Rheumatoid Arthritis is not confined to the bones and joints and could be manifested in the lungs, heart, eyes, and kidneys too.

Ayurvedic management for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid Arthritis is known by the name Amavata in Ayurveda. The treatment is planned according to the stage of the disease. Vata, one of the 3 doshas in the human body is the most affected here, along with the formation of the endotoxin, Ama. To relieve the disease, we need to pacify Vata and remove ama out of the system. Vata imbalance is the reason why your joint feels stiff and painful. A properly done oil massage and the herbs which are sweet and hot in potency would help mitigate the localized Vata aggravation. Therapies like rice poultices (Njavarakkizhi), oil pouring (tailadhara), an enema with milk (ksheera Basti) also work best. Skin rashes are managed by drugs having immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties like neem, turmeric, basil, etc. Fever is managed accordingly with Ayurvedic antipyretic drugs. Rasayanas (rejuvenators) are given in order to promote overall strength and immunity.
